A Change of Plans
I appreciate nature’s beauty and autumn is my favorite season. One of the finest sights my eyes have seen is the fall foliage in New England. From the cooler weather to pumpkin pie, autumn is my favorite season. I look forward to every October and the browning of the leaves is just one piece of my content during the last quarter of the year.
I maintain that the best way to see the differing colors of the trees is from above, and I was going to make a whole day of it this coming Saturday (October 10). My plan was to fly to Eastport, Maine - which holds the claim of being the easternmost airport in the United States - all the while taking in some wonderful views and capturing some amazing images. Then spend some time in the quaint border town of Eastport. No doubt that it would have been a great weekend. The weather is forecast to be perfect, too!
But as every pilot knows, plans may change and you must be flexible.
A good buddy of mine is having a virtual wedding on Saturday afternoon. I was supposed to be in Kansas City for the in-person wedding this weekend but his plans changed too (plans have changed for many people this year). Recently, I was invited to view the wedding online and it an event that I do not/will not miss. Nick and I go back a long time!
So, I am no longer going to Eastport. I am no longer going to Maine. I’m going to southern New Hampshire, to the town of Keene, a flight of just under an hour. And while this won’t be the long flight and getaway that I had envisioned I am still making the best of it. I think I’m still going to do the standout test of ForeFlight’s Performance Plus plan. I’m going to fly up and over what should still be some pretty wonderful views, just not as much of it as had been planned before. And I plan to have breakfast at what should be a delicious airport restaurant!
So, stay tuned. Plans have changed, indeed, but that shouldn’t negate a good fall flying day!
